Let's Dance! Join us at BloomDance
Bloomin’ Marvellous Tap
Our adult tap classes are designed to be a fun and energetic 45 minutes of learning tap techniques and rhythms. Because tap dance involves counting intricate rhythms it is excellent for stimulating and exercising the brain as well as the body.
Tap is also amazing at enhancing other dance styles such as street and jazz, as it involves being able to accent any note in the bar of piece of music.
As well as learning the techniques and the steps, tapping at BLOOM will help you improve your physical and mental health. It’s a great work out and a fantastic way of meeting like-minded people. Being able to make a noise is also a great way of blowing away the day’s cobwebs!
Our beginners class is aimed at those who have no current tap dance experience or maybe those that are returning to tap and would like a gentle
refresher back in to it. We’ll cover all of the basics and will add to these each week.
Our intermediate class is suitable for those who have taken tap classes as a child or adult and already have the basics down.
In both classes, we get the blood pumping with a cardio warm up with drills of lots of familiar steps. We move on to some mini combinations, and of course we couldn’t forget our timesteps and a shim sham! Each half term we work on a new dance which we build on each week.
We really like to mix it up in terms of music and styles, we have danced to everything from Harry Styles to Anything Goes, Beyonce to 42nd Street!
Seated Tap
Our seated tap class is designed for those who LOVE to tap their feet along to all the amazing music we have on offer but may not have the balance or the
stamina to stand for the full 45 minutes. This class follows the pattern of a warm up, followed by a refresher of steps and then a dance which we focus on for one or two weeks. Some learners like to stand for the class but there is the option to sit down if needed. We learn a choregraphed routine to all sorts of music. Elvis, Queen, Nat King Cole and Jersey Boys to name a few - anything that gets our toes tapping.
Budding Ballet
Perhaps you didn’t have the opportunity to take ballet as a child and fancy starting out on your dream or maybe you have attended ballet classes before
and know how wonderful this style of dance is, either way we’d love to see you chassé across the dancefloor!
These classes are suitable for all levels of fitness as movements can be adapted to suit individual’s needs. Ballet is graceful and elegant and is also an energizing fullbody workout that challenges both the body and mind. It can help reinvigorate the body to combat muscle atrophy and loosen up stiff joints. Because ballet is so focused on footwork and articulating the muscles in the ankle, foot and toes, research has also shown that ballet can help minimize falls as it improves balance and body awareness. It can also help provide physical therapy for existing conditions like arthritis due to its focus on correcting posture, technique and flexibility.
This dance genre is physically and mentally stimulating. When performing any exercises in class you’ll always be thinking of how to perform a particular movement such as a demi plié (keeping correct posture, knees over toes, heels down, core engaged, etc,) you’ll also be thinking of staying on the beat of the
music and then there is the challenge of remembering the steps of an enchaînement (mini combination). All of these combined can help to keep our brains activeand can help lead to a more positive mindset. As well as all the health benefits ballet is also a really fun and beautiful way to move your body express yourself, and make new friends!
Our ‘Raise The Barre’ class is designed for anyone who might find the centre work in a ‘regular’ ballet class too much of a challenge for a variety of reasons,
mobilty or breathing issues or recovering from injury. This class will teach all the correct technique, postures and positions of our other ballet classes but will keep you safely at the barre and working at a gentler pace. There is also the option to be seated for some exercises if preferred.
Rhythm and Blooms Musical Theatre Jazz
Modern jazz has huge health and physical fitness benefits which include increased strength, flexibility, coordination, and endurance. You can develop arm strength from floor work, leg strength from jumps, and core strength from coordinating all of your body at the same time.
Modern jazz can help increase flexibility and range of motion in the hips, shoulders, and spine. This class is also fantastic for improving co-ordination.
There are challenging steps and combinations where the upper and lower body contrast each other in numerous ways. (A bit like patting your head and rubbing your
tummy!) As well as all the benefits above, the uplifting highenergy music of a musical theatre jazz class can help lead to an increased amount of endurance and stamina in the body.
A typical jazz class at BLOOM will include a cardio warm up which we change up each term. We then move on to a technique, stretch and conditioning section which
stays the same each week so you can really focus on these things rather than what comes next.
We then mix up our corner work combinations including pirouettes, kicks and leaps.
Then it’s on to our dance! At BLOOM we tend to pick a musical theatre piece every half term to dance our hearts out to. As we all know musical theatre has
a huge variety of genres. We love to dance to a complete mixture which helps us become more versatile dancers and build confidence in styles which we may
be less familiar with. One term we can be leaping around as guys to “Luck Be A Lady’ from Guys and Dolls and the next half term boogieing to the Little Shop
of Horrors or strutting our stuff as one of the queens from SIX!
